The Colonic Irrigation Procedure
Having a colonic irrigation is an extremely safe procedure, and there isn’t anything special you’ll need to do beforehand. Eating a large meal (especially some greasy fast food!) or having lots to drink beforehand is not recommended.
Prior to the procedure, your colonic therapist will give you an introduction, and establish your lifestyle, dietary habits and any medical history you may have.
Relax! Take it easy
The preferred position for the irrigation procedure is with you lying on your side. Warm water is then funneled into your bowel through a tube that is inserted into your rectum. Although the concept sounds a little unnerving, there is nothing to worry about, the discomfort is very minimal, in fact many people do not feel any sort of discomfort at all, but rather a pleasant sensation. As the water flushes your bowel, waste products and toxins are then passed back out through the tube.
This part of the process takes around ten to fifteen minutes. The therapist will then generally gently massage your abdomen (lower stomach area) to give the process a helping hand. Generally, the entire colonic process will take about 35-50 minutes, depending on various factors.
It’s done! The therapy is over
After your cleanse, your therapist may give you some probiotics. Probiotics are basically helpful bacteria. It’s a common misconception that all bacteria is somehow bad, when your stomach and bowel (not to mention the rest of your body) are filled with bacteria that allow you to lead a healthy life. Probiotics are the “good guys”, something everyone needs inside them to digest and process their food! Your therapist may either insert the probiotics directly into your bowel through the rectum, or give you some capsules/tablets.
And that is it! You’ve just had your first colonic irrigation procedure! Feel better. Although the concept may seem a little off-putting to some people at first, it’s really a very relaxing, stress-free experience.
